YOU ARE WHAT YOU WEAR

Ola Billmont: Humorous Road Trips

Where are you from?
Stockholm, Sweden.

Did you always know you wanted to be a photographer?
Oh no, I picked up a camera very very late in life. In on my 7th year now.

What is your training?
Nothing more than practicing and experimenting. Been shooting a LOT.

How would you describe your photography style?
Straight up. But somehow I find a good picture to be slightly humorous.

What is your favorite subject to photograph?
People. After being out on a long road trip, the portraits are what warms my heart.

Could you tell us about the best project that you have done? Why is it the best?
The best one? The most comprehensive is what I’m working on now. It’s about the rural parts of Sweden. But maybe my Octoberfest series because it has a lot of good pics in it.

What do you do to try and improve yourself and your work?
Working with a plan, not shoot as randomly as I’ve done before.

Whose work has influenced you most?
Ohh this is hard, but if I have to choose one, it’s Alec Soth.

What is your favorite travel destination?
A small dirt road on the countryside, anywhere in the world.

Favorite fashion brand at the moment?
Acne, love their t-shirts.

Can you tell us three interesting things about you?
Before making photos I played poker; I used to be a pilot (Piper); I’ve spent 48 hours in a jail cell in NY.

What did you do yesterday?
Developed and scanned film from my last road trip.
